The above three pictures were sent in by Bill Smith who served with A 4-17 from 1988 to 1991. The pictures were taken in Iraq when he was serving with the 101st in 2003-2004.
Lieutenant Randy Lewis serving as a Infantry Platoon Leader with the 1st Battalion, 17th Infantry Regiment in Iraq. Some of you might remember him as SGT Randy Lewis who was a Medic with 4-17 from 1986 to 1990. Is it just me or does CSM Ripka's aura alone still appear able to penetrate 14 inches of steel after blasting thru reactive armor upgrades? i tried copying that photo of he and Pat but apparently the imaging software i have is not sophisticated enough to capture his image. his portion came out looking like a doppler effect...shifting toward the hoo-ah end of the visible light spectrum... daaaaaamn...

Smitty! From A 4/17. Part of the original Vincenza mob that used to wreak havoc among my COHORT members unfortunate enought to be assigned to A Co. He and Stankiewicz (another Vincenza mobster and a CLC classmate of mine) used to room together. Man - major odd couple there. Stank was 7 foot 4 i think and smitty was - not shorter... Safer, on the modern day battlefield. man they used to do some medieval shit to the FNG's on whiskey night. Which i believe was Tuesday thru Saturday i believe with exceptions made for FTX... Of course, such a passionate love was never meant to last and Smitty and Stank broke up eventually. I have been waiting to see Robert Stanz (nee Stankiewicz) posting here but so far nada...
